September 5 is another day in my life I will never forget for that is the day that we scattered my mom’s ashes at sea and celebrated her life with family and friends. The day started off early for us as we headed to Santa Cruz Harbor to scatter her ashes. There were 11 of us on the boat which included my family and friends. It was a beautiful day and after the scattering of the ashes, we even got to ride around the harbor for a little bit and see Santa Cruz Boardwalk from the boat.
After that, we headed to the clubhouse at my Grandmama’s place for the Celebration of Life. It was a wonderful service and it was nice to see all of her friends, family, and co-workers show up. The service was officiated by Pastor Rose who was wonderful. My Grandmama had it catered and everything just turned out beautiful and how I wanted it to be.
It was a hard day, but as hard as it was, it was nice seeing the support that is there for me and my family. It was also a lot different than my dad’s service last year. Even though both were pretty informal, my dad’s was even more informal and laid back, which is the way he would’ve wanted it. However, even though his was more informal, his was harder. I never had the chance to say goodbye to my dad; whereas with my mom, I got to. Losing a parent is never easy, let alone losing both parents in the span of 16 months, but it has definitely made me stronger and a braver person.
